In this Cochrane systematic review, the Cochrane Collaborative found limited data comparing anticonvulsants with placebo to treat alcohol withdrawal syndrome. In addition, researchers didn’t find any clear differences in effectiveness between anticonvulsants and other drugs. They noted that larger, better-designed studies are needed.
