This Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) guide presents 3 evidence-based practices that engage and improve outcomes for people with concurrent substance use and concurrent substance use disorders:
- FDA-approved pharmacotherapy, together with counseling, to treat alcohol and cocaine dependence or cocaine and opioid dependence
- Contingency management, together with FDA-approved pharmacotherapy and counseling, to treat cocaine and opioid use and dependence or cocaine dependence and alcohol and opioid use
- 12-step facilitation therapy, together with FDA-approved pharmacotherapy and counseling, to treat cocaine and opioid dependence or opioid and other substance dependence
