NEW DATE: Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee Draft Report Meeting

The Committee’s Draft Report Meeting Now Scheduled for June 17, 2020

The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee’s draft report webcast meeting, originally scheduled for Monday, June 8, will now take place via webcast on Wednesday, June 17, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. EDT. Registration will open soon. The meeting will include updates on the Committee’s draft conclusion statements (see below), and Committee deliberations and decisions regarding their draft advisory report. Organized by life stage, the advisory report summarizes the Committee’s evidence review and provides overarching advice to the Departments based on the consideration of all of their conclusions statements.

The Committee will finalize their report based on the meeting discussion and submit their final advisory report to the Secretaries of USDA and HHS at the end of June 2020. USDA and HHS will post the final report online, send out public notification, and open a new public comment period on or around July 15, 2020 for the Departments to accept comments on the Committee’s advice. USDA and HHS will consider the Committee’s report, along with public and agency comments, as the Departments develop the next edition of the Dietary Guidelines for release by the end of this year.

Draft Conclusion Statements Added to DietaryGuidelines.gov Topics and Questions Page for Increased Transparency; Public Comment Period Extended to June 10, 2020

To help the public easily find draft conclusion statements related to each scientific question, they are now available via the Topics and Questions page. Simply click on each question for its draft conclusion statement.

Update: The public comment period to the Committee has been extended to June 10, 2020 to give the public more time to comment on the Committee’s draft conclusion statements.

The Committee has discussed their scientific review, including drafts of these conclusion statements, during Committee meetings, all of which have been open to the public. Slides and recordings of the deliberations are available on the meetings page. Conclusion statements describe the state of the science related to the specific question examined. As the Committee finalizes their work, they will look across all of the conclusion statements to develop overarching advice for USDA and HHS to consider as the Departments develop the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines. Thus, individual conclusion statements should not be interpreted as the Committee’s overarching advice to the Departments nor should it be interpreted as dietary guidance.
