Register Now: September 25th Healthy People 2030 Webinar on Diabetes Prevention, Treatment, and Management

The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) is pleased to announce its next Healthy People 2030 webinar: Healthy People 2030: Empowering Diabetes Prevention, Treatment, and Management. This webinar will take place on Wednesday, September 25 from 11:00 am ET to 12:00 pm ET. During this one-hour event, ODPHP will present on three Healthy People 2030 featured objectives related to diabetes prevention and management and the role of health literacy in patient-provider communication. The webinar will also feature a presentation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics to share the latest data on the three featured objectives and a joint presentation by the American Diabetes Association and the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists to share details on their efforts to empower diabetes specialists and people with diabetes to improve health and well-being. 

The three Healthy People 2030 objectives to be featured during the webinar are:

• D-06: Increase the proportion of people with diabetes who get formal diabetes education Formal diabetes education helps people gain the knowledge, skills, and abilities they need to manage their condition. This is key to improving health outcomes in people with diabetes.
• D-07: Increase the proportion of adults with diabetes using insulin who monitor their blood sugar daily 
  People with diabetes who monitor their blood sugar can track their response to treatment and find out if they’re meeting their blood sugar targets. This can help with decisions about nutrition, physical activity, and medications. Research suggests that self-monitoring can help reduce A1c levels within 6 months.
• HC/HIT-02: Decrease the proportion of adults who report poor communication with their health care provider 
  Good communication between health care providers and patients is part of high-quality care, but many people have trouble talking with their health care providers. Strategies to improve communication between health care providers and patients can lead to better prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and self-management of diseases.
