Baseline: 38.4 percent of adolescents aged 12 to 17 years spoke privately with a physician or other health care provider without another adult in the room during a preventive medical visit in the past 12 months in 2016-17

Number of adolescents aged 12 through 17 years who had private time with the physician or other health care provider during the last preventive health check-up visit.

Target-setting method justification
Trend data were not available for this objective. A percentage point improvement was calculated using Cohen's h effect size of 0.1. This method was used because it was a statistically significant improvement from the baseline. The target is consistent with the guidance by the Health Resources and Services Administration's Maternal and Child Health Bureau for all objectives derived from National Survey of Children's Health data.
