Within the Federal Government, the Federal Interagency Workgroup (FIW) led the Healthy People 2030 development effort. The FIW drew on the diverse backgrounds of its member agencies, lessons learned from past Healthy People efforts, broad-based public comment, and the work of the Secretary's Advisory Committee on National Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Objectives for 2030.
The FIW also provides ongoing science-based and expert consultation to the Assistant Secretary for Health (ASH) throughout the decade. Chaired by the ASH, the FIW meets monthly to steer the initiative, monitor changes and discuss progress, and guide implementation of Healthy People. FIW members include representatives across the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as well as the U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Education, among others.
