HHS and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released the first edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (Dietary Guidelines) in 1980. Since then, we’ve published a new edition of the Dietary Guidelines every 5 years. Each edition features recommendations developed by the federal government based on the latest body of nutrition science.
